We often hear from people
who have recently found our website, and always wanted
an original authentic yellow 1960s/1970s dial telephone,
but didn't know where to find them and, if they did ever
come across one, it was usually in poor condition, didn't
appear original, looked as if it might not work. Our telephones
are in excellent condition and are guaranteed to bring
back all sorts of memories with their authentic mechanical
bell ring - perhaps just like the telephone you had at
home when you were a child.
Introduced in 1959, the initial 700 type telephone used
the 300 Type body with a new handset and transmission
circuit. However, this was a stopgap until a new plastic
body could be developed. The design for the new 706 body
probably looked to the American Bell 500 telephone for
inspiration. The use of plastic meant that a greater range
of colours could be used. Another innovation was the now
universal curly cord. In the 1970s, the yellow 700
Type telephone was given a minor facelift. The bodyshape
was slightly modified as was the method of fixing the
case to the body. Later on, the cradle rest was further
modified to ensure that the handset sat firmly on the
hook-switch.
Fully restored or Museum Grade? Our fully restored versions
are used telephones that we have restored to an almost
new condition. Minor scratches are polished away. Over-restoration
is avoided, as this would otherwise take value away from
the telephone and be detrimental to the authentic look
and feel of the telephone. Our museum grade versions are
simply the best you'll find anywhere.
